Bring it on...Ironman CDA

It's been a long journey and most of it has been fun. Some days have been tough and others very easy. I have only planned for a few days in advance because my workouts became hard. I changed plan plan a few times, but stuck to it.

It's been almost a year since I decided to sign up. I made a big decision and it's been worth it. Nicole and I drive up to Coeur d'Alene on Wednesday morning. Bright and early so we can get there by Friday afternoon. It's about a 16 hour drive and should be a fun road trip.

I am going to Ironman a little banged up. I had a bike crash today at the entrance to the Cherry Creek State Park over the weekend. I lost control because of the gravel/sand. I got some scrapes and more battle wounds to add to my collection. My wrist hurts pretty bad and pray that I just sprained it and will be healed by race day. I have one week to heal. That's crappy. I will make due and hopefully this will teach me something important. (not to crash a week before your race)

Checkout Ironman.com on June 22nd and checkout my progress. The race starts at 7am Pacific Time. My bib # is 61. I will be racing and at full force. I have been training hard and will try my best. Here are my goals:
1) Finish
2) Finish before dark
3) Finish in 11-13 hours

Wish me luck and pray for some super fast healing.

Last weekend before Ironman

That's right. Last weekend before Ironman weekend and I went to Aurora Reservoir for more training. This is the 4th week in a row that I have swam the reservoir and today I only swam 3,000 yards. I didn't want to overdue it.

Getting faster!! Thursday's workout at the pool the fastest swim workout since I started training for triathlons. That is a cool thing to say. I am able to swim farther and fatigue less. That's Ironman training!!!

Today's swim was better than the last three open water swims. It was about the same coldness, but I just felt like I had more in me. Plus there were others swimmers and I felt awesome!

I swam 3,000 yards in 55:40.05. I got out at 2,000 yards and ran just a little bit. My hands and feet weren't nearly as numb and cold today. I think it made a difference that it was hot day already and no wind. The lake was calm!!

I decided to make it a brick workout so I could get my workouts done and over with. I rode my bike for 1:55:00 and went about 40 miles. I averaged 19.6 mph and I was slowing down. I know now not to push it too hard at Ironman!!

No sunscreen today, and I sure did pay for it. I finally bought some Aloe Vera, but I look so red and starting to get a triathlon tan. Yikes. Well, at least Ironman is week away and I have enough time to peel if necessary. Tomorrow is a 1hr bike and 30-40 min run brick. It will be a early morning workout!!

Ironman Dream

I had a dream early this morning about Ironman. How cool! It was a good dream, thank goodness.

Not much to it. Nicole and I arrived early and we started meeting other athletes. Booths/Exhibits were just setting up and the store was starting to open. The hats were cool!!

I was doing a quick tune up on my bike. I was checking my tires, brakes, etc. I had another blogger friend (TriGreyhound or Spokane Al) check it out. I remember them borrowing my bike for a quick test ride. I also remember my bike being very dirty. I remember asking if he was going to stop at midpoint??

That's really it. I need to go tune on my bike now. Bye.

My bib number has been announced. My bib # is 61. That's a low number, and I feeling great! Almost professional. Very Real.

Total Distance:
Swim: 8,800 meters (5.87 miles)
Run: 20.07 miles
Bike: 108.52 miles

Not much to say, except its taper time!! I am finding more time to do other things. Some things went well this week and others didn't. I cut one swim workout short because I ran out of time. My runs have been pretty short and my biking has been a little less.

I have been to the Aurora Reservoir 3 times in the last three weeks. Each time I have done a total of 4,000 yards. Each one I have timed and I have not improved my time. OK, so I have but all are within a minute.

I have come out of the reservoir after the first 2,000 yards...run a little and jump back in. The last two times my fingers and toes went numb. The hot tub seems like a good idea??? I have tried a neoprene cap and it does nothing. I can manage the swim, but it's not my best swimming so far. I will finish, but I will be cold afterwards. How to warm up...in a hurry. I think I might just deal...jump on the bike and hope I warm up??

Why do I Run?

The Denver Marathon has been doing a great job promoting this year. I received a post card at an event that I attended this year. The phrase that I have been seeing advertised is:

Why do you run?
My response: "Push my limits, live long and run FAST!"

Then I started thinking...Why do I do triathlons?
My response: "Changing things up. Not all just running, swimming or biking"

RMRR Trophy Race - Stone House Park

The RMRR Trophy Series Race was a 2.4 mile run held at Stone House Park. I was grouped with the fastest male of the day. The first mile was crazy!! I couldn't keep up...I had to slow down. The first mile was 5:15. That was super fast. I was running with 2 fast runners. My second mile was 6:09. Not very even. I remember this race from last year and I had terrible cramps. Not so bad this year!!

Another cold swim

It's been a long day...

I had a Rocky Mountain Road Runners Race today. It was only 2.4 miles! Short, but fast. Ran it in 14:16. That's under 6min per mile. Too fast...

Went to church.

Went to a Graduation Party. My second cousin, Josh, graduated from High School. Cool party. Lots of family present.

Came back home (was way to late)

Nicole and I went to the Reservoir again today. Nicole brought her book and she read on the beach area while I swam. Thanks Nicole!!

The water was said to be 56-60 degrees. The first 2,000 yards was pretty cool. It didn't seem too cold.

I got out, ran just a little bit, and jumped back in.

The last 1,000 yards was tough. My fingers and toes were cold. So cold....
So cold they went numb.

Oh yeah...it was extremely windy too. I did pretty good considering the circumstances, but I can't wait till the water warms up a little more.

We drove home and I was shivering (just like last time) and Nicole turned on the heater. So nice!!! What am I going to do for Ironman? I won't have time to dink around. Hurry up...dry off...and go...Which means I will have to warm back up on the bike...Arg. Me and 2,000+ other athletes. Crazy!!!!!!!!!

What a great week. A PR at the Bolder Boulder, Long Distance swimming, nice easy run, LONG Bike ride with a pretty good brick/run workout, open water swimming.

This week I have not been to the gym for my weight training. I have finished my training program 2 weeks ago and miss the gym...just a little.

My run numbers are a little low, but I am not too conerned. I had a side cramp during my run/brick workout so I need to figure something about. My toes and fingers went numb during my long swim and I am borrowing a Silicone "warm wear cap" from my co-worker. I will try this out next time I swim. I hope it works. I am not sure about Aqua Shoes??
